Zbigniew Olszewski was born in 1955 in Lubin, Poland. In 1975-80 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1980, he defended his diploma cum laude in the field of graphics in the studio of Prof. Andrzej Rudziński, an appendix painting prepared in the studio of Prof. Eugeniusz Markowski. He has had many individual exhibitions, including in Lublin (1984, 1997, 2005, 2015), Gorzów Wielkopolski (1986), Kraśnik (1991), Jarosław (1991) and collective works in Lublin, Kazimierz Dolny, Radom and Hamburg. His painting is characterised by detailed contour lines, expressive colours, surreal illusions and apparent randomness of combining motifs, reminiscent of artists such as René Magritte, Hieronymus Bosch, and even Joan Miró.
